Demo Day - August 21st — 11:00 AM -3:00 PM
On the third Saturday of each month, we demonstrate something we are just sure you want to know more about. Drop in any time between 11 am and 3 pm to see what’s new. If you’re shy, you can just watch; if you’re bold, you can try it yourself. After watching the demonstration, put your name in our hat and we’ll draw for a $25 gift card.
This month’s demo is the Bernina Cut N Sew Tool. If you don’t have room for a serger, let your sewing machine double as one! The attachment cuts the fabric edge and sews in one operation. It’s the perfect solution for those times you want to have finished seams but don’t own a serger (or don’t want to dig it out!).

American Beauty– Block #7 — Summer Breeze
First, please accept my apologies for posting information on the July Block - Summer Breeze - in August. I had a wonderful vacation in Yellowstone Park with my sister and two childhood girl friends the last part of July and I am trying to catch up with everything from housework, gardening, sewing, and most importantly the website, Facebook, and the Blog. Just in case you have been reading about all the bear attacks in Yellowstone we didn’t see any bears. They must have sent them all to timeout.
There are two blocks, this one and Escape in Month 11, that have an odd strip width. There are no templates in Set L that are this dimension. Cut the strips of Fabric A a few threads longer than 9″ (9.07 inches to be exact). Then trim with template #68 as shown below. The edge of the corner of the template needs to be touching the end of the strip. You are only seeing part of the diagram. Click on the picture and the full diagram will appear.
PS….Anita (a faithful Blog follower) noted that her page 2 instructions said that strip A should be 2 4/8 (2 1/2″). That is incorrect. The strip should be 2 3/8 inches (as noted on Page #1). Please review your instructions and if necessary note the correct size.

Kari Castleberry - Brother’s Wedding Gift
Kari was inspired to make this quilt for her brother’s wedding gift when she saw it in the Quiltmaker magazine (March/April, 2010). The name of the pattern is Lime Grape Fizz and it is for a twin-size bed. She used Electric Quilt software to make it a king size quilt. Kari used a quilting technique from the book “Low Fat Quilting” . Essentially, she cut the batting in half and quilted the first half with her home sewing machine. She then inserted the 2nd half of batting and quilted that side. Kari states that she would use this technique again for a large quilt.

Sue Oakes — Wool Garden
This was Sue’s first time working with wool. It was also the first time she had machine quilted her own work. She plans to hang it in her bedroom. Sue loves working with wool. She finds it so easy to applique. She used Cheryl Gunn’s pattern titled “Wool Garden”. We have put the entire 12 month project into one kit. Do one block each month or work your fingers to the bone and complete them sooner.
