December 22

The Kitchen Sink

Every few months or so, I have to break down and do some dishes. Maybe I’ll want to do them more often because of today’s special! Buy a tin of LaviShea Lotion Bar* ($8.99) to use afterward and a 3-pack of Aunt Martha’s Vintage 1930’s red-stripe Towels ($10.99) to use during, and we’ll give you an exclusive redwork pattern to embellish the towels. The design is one that Cheryl Gunn, of Waltzing with Bears, drew just for you and just for the Last Day of Christmas! Cheryl envisioned redwork, but you can do it in any color or colors you would like.

*For your edification, the LaviShea bars were designed by the wife of a Frontier Airlines pilot. His hands would get really rough but he didn’t like to carry lotion because of screening at the airport, so she developed the bars. They are a solid combination of shea butter and soy that melt with body heat and absorb quickly, without leaving a greasy residue. They also smell really nice - not cloying at all. Bars are available in these scents: Citrus Basil, Cucumber Melon, Ginger Blossom, Lavender, Lemongrass (for good or bad, it smells like Pledge), Pear, The Man Bar (no comment except it smells really nice), The Yarn Bar (smells good, but does it smell like yarn?), Unscented (boring!), and White Lily Amber.

Ever worked on an unwieldy sewing project and felt like you had a close encounter with a porcupine, because you were stabbed so often by straight pins? Wonder Clips are a great alternative to pins, especially when working with coated fabrics, heavy fabrics, bindings, or so many layers that it is difficult to pin. One side is flat so they feed easily across the sewing machine bed. They are also marked at 1/2″, 3/8″, 1/4″, and 3/16″ intervals. Clover’s new Wonder Clips are wonderful, indeed! Today’s special? Buy the 10-pack of Wonder Clips ($6.95) and get a TQC mechanical pencil for FREE! Buy the 50 pack ($32.95), and get a Clover Straight Tailor’s Awl ($5.00) for FREE!

Day 7 Special (December 17)

A Historic Notion

Think historic thoughts while ripping out errant seams. These beautiful Seam Rippers ($20 each) are handmade by Don Blasdel. He used wood from ash and elm trees that were planted at the Idaho State Capitol Building in 1887 and moved in 2007 during the restoration and expansion of the Capitol. We know you personally have no need for a seam ripper, but maybe some of your sewing buddies could use one now and then. He’s done a beautiful job on these - what a piece of Idaho history!

We twisted Don’s arm to allow us to offer these during The Twelve Days of Christmas. He only had enough mechanisms to make twelve but has promised us a few more after the beginning of the year. So, the first 12 get one before Christmas, the next 12 will receive them from the next batch. If we do some more forceful arm-twisting, we might persuade him to make more.

Special Order Time

Mary Ellen’s Best Press makes ironing fun! Okay, that’s an exaggeration, but it does make it easier and better smelling! But then, you already know that. Today, if you order the gallon refill in your favorite scent ($49.95), you can purchase the Best Press Gem Set for only $12 (regularly $23.95). The Gems set consists of six 2-ounce bottles - one each of Lavender Fields, Cherry Blossom, Citrus Grove, Tea Rose Garden, Caribbean Beach, and Scent Free - all in a cute little polka dot bag. The gallon refills are available in all those flavors plus Linen Fresh. Because of shipping issues, this offer is only valid for our in-store customers - sorry!

Pieceful Quilting Sew Steady Holiday Package

If you don’t have a sewing cabinet or if you take classes, this is a terrific option for you. The Sew Steady Table is large enough (18″ x 24″) to give you plenty of sewing space, the Travel Bag is perfect for toting it when you are on the road, the Spinner Tray keeps all your little notions out of the way but still accessible, the Straight Guide keeps you on the straight and narrow, and the new Polish Kit keeps it all clean and spiffy. MSRP is $180.45; it’s yours for only $139.99 (upgrade from the Spinner Tray to the Draw Table for an additional $10.00 or to the Big Table - 24″ x 24″ - for an additional $54). Because these are custom cut for your sewing machine, we require payment at the time of order. Allow 2-4 weeks production time.

These fine notions also have magnetic personalities. The red Bernina pincushion ($12.99) has a gigantic magnet inside, so you can toss your new Clover Fine Patchwork Pins ($8.25) in the general vicinity and the pincushion will practically grab them out of the air. The cute, cute, cute, cute - okay, I really like it - Needle Case (4.49) has a magnetic strip inside to keep your favorite needles in place. Buy all three and we’ll throw in a pack of Jeanna Kimball’s Foxglove Studio straw needles ($2.99) - my favs!

To read more about the wonderful pins, scroll down to the September 2 entry. If you would prefer a different pincushion, we also have a similar one from Clover in hot pink, lime green, or purple for $15.95.

Day 4 Special (December 14)

Millie, Bronco Birdie, Birdie’s Bungalow, Movie Quilt, Rear Window

We’re Kit Krazy! Are you worried about going stir crazy during the holidays? Escape to your sewing room and stitch away with one of these fun and carefree kits. The thinking is done for you - you just need to sit and sew. Go a little nuts and buy one of these kits for 15% off. Be off the wall and buy any two for a 20% discount. Go krazy for three or more and we’ll take off 25%.

The Millie Quilt (58″ x 66″) is perfect for those times you just want some mindless sewing or for when you need a quilt in a hurry. In lime, strawberry, and chocolate, it’s cute to boot! $59.95, pattern included.

Are you a BSU fan? Well, who isn’t? We’ve made Bronco Birdie’s Bungalow, a blue and orange version of the quilt below, a little bit bigger than the regular version (63″ x 84″). $94.95, pattern included.

Who can resist the hot pink, lime, and black & white Birdie’s Bungalow. The modified log cabin construction makes it easy as pie. Dimensions are approximately 52″ x 84″. $84.95, pattern included.

A movie buff? Our Movie Quilt Kit is so much fun to make. The pattern is Yellow Brick Road - couldn’t be any easier - and we’ve used all sorts of snack fabrics to make it just delicious to sew. Our kit for the lap-size version, 57″ x 75″, is $79.95, pattern included.

Speaking of movies, curl up under this green and brown version of Rear Window while watching some Hitchcock classics. Only half the quilt is shown. It measures 67″ x 80″ and is $89.95 plus $9.00 for the pattern.
